Can?t seem to get a health and safety committee to work at your business? Don?t throw in the towel there are options available to you!
Some business can meet their consultation requirements through what is known as other agreed arrangements. Other agreed arrangements refer to utilising a variety of mediums, other than a committee to communicate, discuss and consult on relevant information. This can be extremely effective and have significant positive impact; especially if your business is small, has workers that travel frequently, work varying shifts, or other factors making it difficult to get workers altogether at one time.
The business can consult on their health and safety matters with staff through a number of outlets such as:
? Tool box talks
? Memos
? Regular scheduled meetings where WHS is always on the agenda
? One ? off meetings
? Face to face discussions
? Safety alerts
? The use of WHS notice boards
It is important to keep in mind that any WHS arrangements must be developed and planned through consultation with your workers.
Also REMEMBER: All consultation arrangements must be consistent with your legal duties under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act)
