I LOVE Thai food and I love my crock pot, so this Crock Pot Thai Green Curry Chicken Recipe was the perfect marriage. Easy to put together, the end result is a delicious and filling green curry chicken that clocks in at only 6 Points + per serving. The only thing that I would do differently next time, is use fresh vegetables. The frozen Asian stir fry vegetables that I used tasted fine, but were a limp and soggy. If you prefer a more firm texture to your veggies, then I?d suggest using fresh vegetables instead of the frozen. Either way, this is still a super tasty and super easy Weight Watchers Crock Pot Recipe. Serve it over some brown rice or noodles for a complete meal. Enjoy!
A quick and healthy meal in the crock pot, this Thai Green Curry Chicken is just the ticket when you are craving the flavors of Thai food. But this healthier version is loaded with protein and fiber and offers a very filling serving for just 6 Points +.

HONOLULU (AP) ? Jim Nabors, the actor best known for playing Gomer Pyle on TV in the 1960s, has married his longtime male partner.
Hawaii News Now (http://bit.ly/14tFM3U ) reports Nabors, 82, and Stan Cadwallader, 64, traveled from their Honolulu home to Seattle to be married Jan. 15. Gay marriage became legal in Washington state last month.
The couple met in 1975 when Cadwallader was a Honolulu firefighter.
"I'm 82 and he's in his 60s and so we've been together for 38 years and I'm not ashamed of people knowing, it's just that it was such a personal thing, I didn't tell anybody," Nabors said. "I'm very happy that I've had a partner of 38 years and I feel very blessed. And, what can I tell you, I'm just very happy."
Nabors said he's been open about his homosexuality to co-workers and friends but never acknowledged it to the media before. He doesn't plan to get involved in the issue politically.
"I'm not a debater. And everybody has their own opinion about this and actually I'm not an activist, so I've never gotten involved in any of this," Nabors told Hawaii News Now.
Nabors became an instant success when he joined "The Andy Griffith Show" in spring 1963. The character of Gomer Pyle ? the unworldly, lovable gas pumper who would exclaim "Gollllll-ly!" ? proved so popular that in 1964 CBS starred him in "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C."
In the spinoff, which lasted five seasons, Gomer left his hometown of Mayberry to become a Marine recruit. His innocence confounded his sergeant, the irascible Frank Sutton.

Pearl IRB, LLC d/b/a Pearl Pathways, a life sciences product development and regulatory consultant company, announced plans Tuesday to expand its operations here, creating up to 38 new jobs by 2016.
?Founded by Hoosier researchers and growing impressively, Pearl Pathways is a prime example of a dynamic life sciences company that will help advance our economy, while raising the average income for hard-working Hoosiers,? said Eric Doden, president of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. ?Indiana continues to be recognized around the globe as a place where starting and growing a life sciences business just makes sense.?
The homegrown-Hoosier company, which provides clinical, regulatory and quality compliance services for the life sciences industry, will invest $355,000 to lease and equip a 2,000 square-foot facility located at 29 E. McCarthy St. in downtown Indianapolis. Pearl Pathways, which plans to move into the new facility in March, is currently hiring additional regulatory affairs, quality compliance and clinical trial specialists.
?We are proud to be one of the expanding companies that positions Indiana near the top in the life sciences industry,? said Diana Caldwell, president and chief executive officer of Pearl Pathways. ?Our growth is fueled by our passion to help our clients expedite the development of life saving diagnostics and therapeutics. While we serve clients coast to coast and globally, the strong client base we have developed in Indiana and favorable business environment make this an ideal place to expand.?
Founded in 2010 by former Eli Lilly employees Diana Caldwell and Gretchen Miller Bowker, Pearl Pathways is a life science services company that provides research and product development services for drug, biologic and medical device companies through its three business units: Pearl IRB, Pearl ReGXP and Pearl IDEAS. The company is a certified women-owned business by the Women?s Business Enterprise National Council.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Pearl IRB, LLC up to $750,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $75,000 in training grants based on the company?s job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city of Indianapolis supports this project at the request of Develop Indy.
?Pearl Pathways? investment in Indianapolis strengthens our role as a leader in life sciences technology,? said Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard. ?I congratulate Pearl Pathways and wish the company much continued success. We look forward to continuing our commitment to cultivating a community of growth in which businesses can thrive.?
The Hoosier State?s life sciences industry includes the corporate headquarters of such giants as Eli Lilly, Biomet, Cook Group and Dow AgroSciences. The total economic impact of the industry in Indiana is estimated at $50 billion a year by BioCrossroads in a report released earlier this month. More than 1,600 life sciences companies that employ 55,000 Hoosiers call Indiana home.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan. 27, 232 people perished in a nightclub fire in Santa Maria, Brazil. The fire is one of the deadliest nightclub fires in the world and it could be the deadliest on record in Latin America.
The nightclub fire erupted around 2 a.m. after a band used flares during their performance on stage which set the ceiling on fire, according to investigators. The club called Kiss, which holds a capacity of 1000 to 2000 people, was filled with about 900 young partygoers. The first death toll estimates came in at 90 and have risen to 232 with 200 injured. Authorities are expecting the death toll to rise.
Here?s a look at the deadliest nightclub fires in Latin America.
Deadly nightclub fires in Latin America
The Brazil nightclub fire bares a striking similarity to the fire that killed 193 people and injured 700 in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Dec. 30, 2004? a result of a flare thrown from the crowd. After the ceiling and roof caught fire, club-goers were trapped inside when the nightclub?s emergency exits were blocked, reports La Tercera.
Faulty pyrotechnics used in a performance at an awards ceremony at Factory nightclub in Quito, Ecuador on April 19, 2008, were behind the nightclub fire that killed 15 and injured 35.
In Mexico City, 22 people were killed and 24 were injured in a nightclub fire on Oct. 20, 2000, when propane gas canisters were said to have exploded at Lobohombo, a well-known after hours club. Many of the victims were trampled to death, reports the Independent.
Two years later on July 20 in Lima, Peru, 29 people were killed and 100 were injured in a nightclub fire caused by a fire show put on by bartenders at the upscale club called Utopia. In this case, the club had a capacity of 400 but was filled with 900 to 1000 people, according to the Associated Press.
That same year on Dec. 1, 47 people were killed at La Guajira nightclub in Caracas, Venezuela. The estimated 400 people at the nightclub rushed toward the exit when smoke began filling the club housed in the basement of Hotel Venezuela. Investigators said the fire may have been caused by faulty electrical wiring.

Since Vine, Twitter's video-sharing service, launched on Thursday, it's been plagued by all sorts of woes. We noticed that it lacks privacy settings and?abuse prevention measures, Facebook prevented it from finding any friends through the social network, and now ... well, now pornographic?content has slipped?into Vine's?"Editor's Picks" section.
Vine's a rather neat service, in theory. If you've got an iOS device, you can create and share Vine videos. All you have to do is point your iPhone (or iPod Touch) at something and press your finger to the screen to record a clip up to six seconds in length (both sound and motion are captured, of course). Once done, you can share it to Vine, Twitter and Facebook. You can also use the app to browse through popular videos and those featured as "Editor's Picks."
And that's where Vine's latest troubles appear. On Monday morning, a video shared by "nsfwvine" ??an account created for the sole purpose of posting pornographic videos to Vine (hence the "Not Safe For Work" part of the name)???received the service's "Editor's Pick" badge of honor.
While the video did lose the "Editor's Pick" badge later in the morning, it was not removed from the service. Instead, it now carries a warning message declaring that the video?"may contain sensitive content" and requires a tap to be viewed. (From what we can tell, this warning message is automatically added to videos which are reported as inappropriate by Vine users.)
We have reached out to Twitter for more information regarding how the video in question?? which shows a young woman and a?sex toy?? was chosen as an "Editor's Pick." We wondered if some sort of automated process may be involved in the selection. A Twitter spokesperson explained that an actual person was actually to blame. "A human error resulted in a video with adult content becoming one of the videos in Editor's Picks," she wrote in an email to NBC News. "[U]pon realizing this mistake we removed the video immediately. We apologize to our users for the error."
We have also contacted Apple, as we suspect the Cupertino-based company is probably not all too happy about pornographic content being?prominently?featured in an iOS app. (It has banned apps for far less racy issues in the past.)
In the meantime, obscene material continues to flood into Vine. Several accounts ? including "nsfwvine" ? have been posting pornographic clips since Vine launched last week. Not all of porn clips?carry the "sensitive content" warning yet and it's not clear if any have been removed so far.
"Wow. How did this happen, Vine?" a user asked?on one of the videos, while another wondered "[c]an I flag this as inappropriate more than once?"

Photoshop has a nifty feature: you can edit keyboard shortcuts and add new ones to your liking. It's really simple to use, too. Just go to the Edit menu and choose Keyboard Shortcuts.
You can add pretty much anything you want, too. Photoshop Secrets suggests using this feature to make it easier to add and edit smart objects:
I use Smart Objects quite a lot in my work. So to make them easier to create and edit, I created a few shortcuts.
Go to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts
Under Layer > Smart Objects set these shortcuts
This is what I set.
Create Smart Object ? ? O
Edit Smart Object ? ? E
They will likely conflict with existing shortcuts, which I didn't use. You should obviously select shortcuts that don't conflict with other shortcuts you don't use.
You can do whatever you like, of course. Adobe likes to change around their keyboard shortcuts with each version, so you can change them back if you prefer or just use this feature to make certain commands more easily-accessible.

It's the most remarkable movie Steven Spielberg has made in quite a spell, and one of the things that makes it remarkable is how it fulfills those expectations by simultaneously ignoring and transcending them.
Lincoln paints a powerful and compelling portrait of the man who has become an icon. We don't need to see more of his life to understand how rare a figure he was - this window is more than sufficient.
Lincoln offers proof of what magic can happen when an actor falls in love with his character. Because as great as Day-Lewis has been in his many parts, he has never seemed quite so smitten.
The film masterfully captures the dual dilemmas facing the president in the final months of his life: how to bring the war between the states to an end, and how to eradicate slavery, once and for all.
Lincoln is a stirring reminder that politics can be noble. Might there be a lesson here for today's shrill D.C. discourse? 'Tis a consummation devoutly to be wished.
Day-Lewis' voice is thin and reedy, which jibes with historical accounts but subverts our expectations. His attitude makes listeners lean in, and so do we, magnetized by his kindly reserve.
It's an impeccably crafted history lesson that, unusually for a Spielberg film, tells us why its subject matter is important, instead of engaging with it on an emotional level.
Daniel Day-Lewis gives a towering performance in Steven Spielberg's bravest picture to date.
N?o ? um retrato multidimensional de um indiv?duo complexo, mas uma f?bula. Um letreiro de "Era uma vez..." em seu in?cio n?o ficaria deslocado.
Against the odds, Spielberg makes something genuinely exciting of the backstage wheedling.
A historic epic from Steven Spielberg carries a lot of baggage, but he surprises us with a remarkably contained approach to an iconic figure. What's most unexpected is that this is a political drama, not a biopic.
[Spielberg is] a man on a mission. And his not so secret weapon is Day-Lewis, an actor so charismatic it's hard to think clearly while he's on screen.
Perhaps this is a rose-tinted view of Lincoln - he comes across as more living saint than man - but as cinema, it is powerful, gripping and thoroughly entertaining.
Spielberg is always a professional, and the film is never less than well-crafted.
By stepping into history without fear, favour or any overfamiliar biopic folly, Lincoln, handsome, often thrilling, and movingly human, goes into history as a major movie achievement.
A rousing, rigorous and morally complex legal procedural more than a trad biopic. And all the better for it.
his is a warm, celebratory film, handsomely shot, with a subtle, sympathetic central performance from Day-Lewis, and tremendous support from Tommy Lee Jones ...
Spielberg's plodding camera endlessly tracks and circles Day-Lewis in complete reverence, while veteran composer John Williams delivers yet another repetitive Jurassic Extra-Terrestrial score.
What a feat from Day-Lewis: the nearest thing a 21st-century biopic can get to a seance.
It's tiresome to describe Day-Lewis as brilliant, so let's push the boat out: his Lincoln is absolutely wonderful.
A thoughtful and thought-proving picture.
Lincoln reminds you how little has actually changed in one-and-a-half centuries - presidents still have to worry about the war dead while trying to create a better life for the fractured living.
Impressively directed and superbly written, this is an absorbing and enjoyable political drama with an Oscar-worthy central performance from Daniel Day-Lewis.
Daniel Day-Lewis gives yet another performance for the ages in Steven Spielberg's admirably literate, thoroughly charming biopic.
Lincoln has been dismissed by some as merely 'people in rooms talking'. That may be true, but what people. And what talking.
Fans of great writing, superb acting, beautiful photography and the rousing scores of John Williams are going to lap this one up.

I understand that when it comes to writing articles, especially about sport, that it is always important to remain impartial towards the topics you discuss, yet for this one, I just cannot.
?Once in a while you read an article that just gets you slightly riled, in this case, Jamie Redknapp?s article in the Daily Mail, with regards to Newcastle United?s recent shopping spree in France, did just that. ?
Now before I go off on a rant and rave, I do in essence agree with some of the things Mr. Redknapp is saying, and in general I respect him as a pundit. He makes some valid points about the state of academy football at Newcastle and in the UK, mainly about how it has not produced. Fair enough.
Yet it is his statement that instead of buying anew squad of foreign players, Newcastle should be promoting their own youth players, is where things just go a little array. In many ways yes, Jamie, in an ideal world, you are right. Promoting from within, like Barcelona, is a local fans dream, but on Newcastle?s current form, it is not a risk worth taking. In actual fact it is a risk they have already taken, and look how it?s turned out.?
?One of the main reasons that Newcastle did not buy players in the summer was because Pardew had faith in the youth players that were at the club, however this was misjudged and clearly it hasn?t worked. Even to Pardew?s own admission. He has given the likes of Shane Ferguson, Sammy Ameobi, James Tavernier and (even!) Nile Ranger the opportunity to perform, yet still Newcastle sink.
?I agree youth development is important, but with the instant success that is now required in football just to stay afloat, youth development is too long term to fix a short-term problem. ?The success Barcelona have now, had its conception in the days of when Johan Cruyff was in charge. It is only today that Barcelona are bearing the fruits. Before, like most other clubs, they bought in new players to compete at the highest level. (Figo, Ronaldo, Kluivert, Rivaldo, Ibrahimovic, Eto?o, Ronaldinho).
?This is exactly why there has been an influx of players to the north east. Newcastle have used the market wisely to pick up good quality players with high re-sale value, in order to help resurrect a rapidly sinking ship. It does not matter if they are French or from anywhere else. Moreover, English players have become far too overpriced, Newcastle have picked up better quality players from abroad for cheaper prices and less wages. Clubs like Newcastle cannot afford to be spending ?15 million on players like Zaha, especially when they have no proven top league or extensive international experience. Yohan Cabaye cost just over ?4 million, while Jordan Henderson cost Liverpool ?20 million. Demba Ba was free and yet Darren Bent cost Aston Villa ?18 million. Ben Arfa cost ?6 million yet Stuart Downing is bought for ?20 million, also, by Liverpool. It is almost farcical.?
?The days where Newcastle produce eleven Geordies able to compete is not realistic anymore. It may looklike they are giving up on their Geordie identity, but the Premiership is now an international league, where clubs are not even owned by Englishmen, let alone from their own area. A price one perhaps has to pay for the quality that the league now offers. ?
?These new players Newcastle have signed will most likely be there for no more than three years before being sold on for a profit. By then, if all goes to plan, there will be a youth player ready to fill in the void. It is economics of the market.
?Phew?now breathe?.!
?

Every year, more drivers travel the highways. As this number goes up, the chances of a car collision will also increase. If you get in a car wreck, the auto insurance you have can make a large difference in what happens next. So how can you figure out which type of insurance you need and how much you should buy? Insurance requirements vary by state/province, but usually include the following: Liability: It pays for the expenses you have caused to others in a car collision, including property damage and injury. Damages from bodily injury include medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Property damage includes car repair costs and loss of use of property. If you are sued, this type of insurance can pay for your court costs. Recommended, higher levels of liability insurance are available that cover more than the lower, state-mandated insurance. Personal Injury Protection: Personal injury insurance is mandated in some states and is optional in others. It pays you or your passengers for medical treatment resulting from a crash, regardless of who may have been at fault, and is often called no-fault coverage. Local government usually sets minimum amounts. Medical Payments: This coverage is available in states that are not considered no-fault; it pays despite who carries responsibility for an accident. If this type of coverage is purchased, the insured person will receive coverage for necessary medical and funeral costs. Collision: This pays for damages to your car caused by a collision. Comprehensive: Protect your car from all non-collision damages when you buy this type of coverage. This may include protection from robbery, vandalism, and weather damage. Uninsured Motorist: This pays for repair and replacement costs when someone with insurance is injured in a crash caused by another person who does not have insurance. Under-Insured Motorist: This pays for damages when an insured person is injured in a crash caused by another person who does not have enough liability insurance to cover the total cost of the damages. Emergency road service, car rental, and other varieties of coverage can also be purchased. Your car insurance payments varies based on the company and will depend on multiple factors, such as: * What coverage you choose * The type of the car you drive * Whether or not you have been in an accident * Your age, sex and marital status * Where you live Don?t wait around to buy auto insurance; you should never be on the road without it. Review your needs, research your options, and with the help of your insurance agency, choose the option that fits you best. State Farm Insurance Silver Spring MD

This morning I was reading old patents (yes, this is what I do for entertainment) and came across an interesting one from way back the last time piercing was ?berpopular over 130 years ago ? filed May 10 and patented July 13, 1880 by Edward Seyfarth in Illinois (US Patent #240,073). As you can see, the design is not that much different from the piercing guns used by disease spreading hacks ^H^H^H^H nostril mutilating morons ^H^H^H^H I mean beauty salon ?piercers? even to this day. The patent application reads in part,
?Be it known that I, Edward Seyfarth, of Lanark, in the county of Carroll and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ear-Piercers ? The object of this invention is to furnish ear-piercers so constructed that the puncture can be made in exactly the desired spot and so quickly as to be painless ? The invention consists in constructing an ear-piercer of a pair of bars hinged to each other at one end and provided at their other ends with sockets to receive blocks to be pressed against the ear, the tube having a cap upon its outer end, the needle having a disk and a notch, the spiral spring, and the catch for holding the needle when drawn out, so that the ear may be pierced while being compressed.?
?In using the piercer the blocks (D) are placed upon the opposite sides of the lobe of the ear in such a position that the hole through the blocks (D) will be directly over the spot where it is desired to puncture the ear. The arms (A and B) are then pressed together to numb the part of the ear between the blocks (D). The catch (K) is then drawn back to release the needle (G), which is forced forward to make the puncture by the elasticity of the spring (H), thus making the puncture without causing pain. The needle (G) is then drawn back, the instrument is removed from the ear, and a wire or thread passed through the puncture in the usual way.?

I?ve often heard the urban myth that the ear piercing gun is directly based on or evolved from the tool that places tags in animal ears ? it wouldn?t surprise me if I?ve even written that at times. Even the extremely qualified and knowledgeable Elayne Angel says this in her recent book on the subject ?The Piercing Bible? (which reminds me, check out her excellent piercing blog at that link), writing ?these gadgets were originally invented for tagging cattle and other animals, and later adapted for use on humans?. But it seems this is a misleading statement, arguably false ? at best the two tools co-evolved. More likely when we?re talking about piercing tools of the ?gun? type that?s most common, one should more accurately argue the evolutionary process is actually the other way around, with a number of patents for animal tagging tools going to far as to explicitly refer back to this very ear-piercing gun patent by Edward Seyfarth! On the whole though I think it?s more realistic to say that the vast majority of animal tagging tools come from the same design family as modified pliers like riveting tools and leather punches, without that much overlap with the design of piercing guns (with a number of notable exceptions). But I?m beginning to digress.
Speaking of ear piercing guns that look more like animal tagging tools, there?s Francis X. Xavbet?s ?ear piercing pliers? filed December 3rd, 1880 (US Patent #250,121 issued November 29, 1881), a simple clamp-like device. Xavbet?s design, unlike Seyfarth?s which only creates the hole, uses sharpened jewelry to accomplish the process in a single step as the tool places the ring. His patent reads in part,
?The object I have in view is to produce simple and convenient means for piercing ears, in which the ear-ring itself can be used as the piercing-point, and will be released by the instrument when the hole is formed, so as to remain in the ear till healed.?
?The ear-ring (F) ? has a sharp-pointed wire (g). It is grasped by the clamp (A), in the position shown in Fig. 1, the plate (E) is then pushed toward the socket (D), and the lobe of the ear is introduced between such plate and the point of the ear-ring. The pliers are then forced together and the ear pierced, when the chain (B) draws back the dog (B) and the clamp is released. The instrument can now be removed from the ear and leave the ear-ring in position. The sharp point of the ear-ring can then be cut off; but this is not necessary, if the ear-ring is provided with a closed keeper, such as is used on safety pins.?
?When it is desired to place in the ears earrings not provided with sharpened points the removable cutting-points (h), Fig. 6, are used. These can be detached from the wires of the ear-rings after the holes are formed.?

I want to mention one other piercing tool that I dug up, filed just after the Seyfarth design by James McAlpine, on May 20, 1880 with the patent issued November 30th (US Patent #234,881). It deserves mention because it?s by far the simplest ? not much more than a holder to help shove a short needle through the lobe with your thumb ? he even suggests piercing both ears at once, as the tool is designed to be one-handed. The patent reads,
?The invention consists, mainly, in certain peculiarities of construction ? [a] means of which the instrument is adapted for use with one hand, in consequence of which it is possible, by applying an instrument to each ear and operating them simultaneously, to pierce both ears at the same time.?
?The operation is substantially as follows: The jaws having been opened, the set-screw being loose, the bearing-faces may be adjusted to the lobe of the ear, and then be held in the proper position simply by tightening the set-screw. By means of the stop projection and pin the jaws are prevented from being brought together too closely. An instrument being thus attached to each ear, as indicated in Fig. 7, and the piercers being inserted in the tubes, the operator, by means of his thumb and finger, simply presses the piercer toward the button, in consequence of which the lobe is pierced. The hands being used simultaneously, both ears are pierced at once.?
?Some of the advantages are as follows: The use of two instruments at once for simultaneous action is desirable, because, first, a saving of time is effected, and, second, the pain and difficulty resulting from two distinct operations are avoided.?

The above designs are some of the earliest piercing tools of their respective families that I have been able to find to date ? although I?m still searching and I strongly believe there are earlier ones in the patent archives that are still to be dug up. I don?t know for certain whether the first one is the earliest patent on a ?true piercing gun? and whether Mr. Seyfarth can be credited as the concept?s overall inventor (I doubt it), but it?s certainly very early and you can still see its influence in ear piercing guns in use around the world.
As you may have noticed from these three Victorian patents, at this point there wasn?t a standardized design for the initial jewelry such as the ubiquitous butterfly-back that is still common today. However, browsing other early patents you start to see hints of this line of thinking, and definite precursors of designs that are still in use. From left to right below are US patents 216,954 (filed May 1, 1879 by Lois Heckman), 269,383 (May 8, 1882 by John Caldwell), and 320,991 (May 1, 1885 by Charles Westcott) ? what is it with piercing inspiration and the month of May by the way?

All three of these designs use some variation on the backing lightly clamping into place on the bar, the first two being aesthetically closest to modern salon-style jewelry. The third one caught my eye though, because although it is functionally similar to the first two, visually it is identical to the barbell jewelry popularized in the body piercing world by Jim Ward in the 1970s?
When I have more time I will do additional patent research on this subject, both on the early history of body modification, and on some of the more recent patents, which have the advantage of being far more hilarious. For example, I was just reading a silly patent on a line of tongue piercing jewelry that contains a receptacle to release ?a substance such as a chemical, breath freshener, pleasant flavor, or medication into the mouth of a wearer? (US Patents 6,675,613 and 8,006,516). The concept works just as you?d expect ? a hollow bar to hold the substance, which is then released through holes in the beads. As enthusiasm grows for 3-D printers, so does a familiar complaint to just about everyone still living in a 2-D inkjet world: the maddeningly high cost and inefficiency of replacement cartridges. Enter the Filabot, a contraption that turns just about all your household plastic waste into "ink" for 3-D printers.
3-D printers melt strips of plastic filament into a gooey paste that is spewed out one layer at a time to create all sorts of plastic parts, gizmos and architect models. The printers are a sign of the future, when we can print just about anything we?d ever want with the press of a button.
For now, the printers mostly deal in the realm of plastics and are popular among early-adopter techies, designers?and people on a mission to change the world for the better. In addition to the cost of the printers, which have begun to fall, plastic filament starts at around $50 for a 2.2-pound spool.
The Filabot was developed by Tyler McNaney, a college student, and financed with funds raised on Kickstarter, the crowdfunding website. It sits on a desktop and is designed to grind and convert everyday plastic waste such as milk jugs, water bottles, and plastic wrap into filament for a future print job.
Early enthusiasts paid $350 for first-run versions of the device, according to Treehugger. A final price for the public version is yet to be announced, but it should pay for itself rather quickly and keep household plastic waste out of landfills and the oceans. What?s more, it means you recycle bad print jobs.

Luck, strong will, maybe even a little generosity from the judges.
The details really don't matter. All anyone will remember is that Ashley Wagner now has something in common with Michelle Kwan.
Wagner became the first woman since Kwan in 2005 to win back-to-back titles in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, managing to hold off up-and-comer Gracie Gold despite two falls Saturday night.
"To join that type of a club with Michelle is absolutely an honor, and I'm so pleased with myself that I was able to accomplish that," Wagner said. "That was one of my main goals this season. I wanted to say I was a repeat national champion. I definitely lucked out at this competition.
"Knowing that, it only pushes me more to have the rest of the season be nice and solid."
Wagner finished with 188.84 points, about two ahead of Gold. Gold won the free skate ? posting the second-highest score ever at the U.S. meet, no less. But the 17-year-old had too much ground to make up after a dismal performance Thursday night in the short program left her in ninth place, more than 13 points behind Wagner.
"This is my first U.S. Championships and it was horrifying at the beginning. But now it's been amazing," said Gold, who won the U.S. junior title last year. "I'm so proud of myself that I was able to come back after that very, very rough short program and to put out that long program that's the best I've ever done."
AP
Ashley Wagner falls to the ice during the senior ladies free skate program at the U.S. figure skating championships, Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, in Omaha, Neb. (AP Photo/Charlie Neibergall) CloseAgnes Zawadzki dropped from second to third after falling on her a triple flip.
Earlier Saturday, Olympic silver medalists and 2011 world champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White won their fifth straight dance title, matching a U.S. record. Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir won the pairs title.
There is something about defending the title that brings out the worst in the American women. Since 1990, Kwan is the only other woman to win consecutive titles (granted, she did win eight straight). Six women have won the last seven crowns, and the reigning champion has almost always had a total meltdown. Rachael Flatt is the only defending champ who even managed to stay on the podium the next year.
"I don't think anyone could have prepared me for how difficult this national championships was going to be," Wagner said.
Wagner, though, is made of stern stuff. She's been rock solid since moving to California to train with John Nicks in the summer of 2011. She won the U.S. title last year, had the best finish by an American at worlds since 2007 and won the silver medal last month in the Grand Prix final.
And she sure looked loose as she came out from the dressing rooms, clapping along with the crowd to Zawadzki's "Rhapsody in Blue" music. Her opening triple flip-double toe loop-double toe combination was gorgeous, drawing oohs and aahs from the crowd. She also did a triple loop in and out of a spread eagle ? incredibly difficult.
But she didn't have her usual fire, almost as if she was skating not to lose rather than skating to win.
"I was feeling great that first half," Wagner said. "Then I started to overthink it a little.
She was off-balance in the air on a triple lutz, and couldn't right herself in time to save it. With a triple loop only seconds later, she didn't have time to regroup and she tumbled to the ice on that one, too.

A De Havilland Twin Otter like the one missing since Wednesday lands at the National Science Foundation's Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in 2003.
By John Newland, Staff Writer, NBC News
Bad weather continued to stop rescuers from searching for a Canadian airplane that went missing in Antarctica with three people on board, officials in New Zealand rescue team said Friday.?
Though winds, which had been blowing at over 100 mph, had calmed to just over 20 mph by 5 p.m. Friday New Zealand time (11 p.m. ET Thursday), conditions would not allow sighting of the downed twin-engine airplane.
?Visibility is down to (1,300 feet) and the snow is almost horizontal,? Kevin Branaghan, an official with Rescue Coordination Center New Zealand, said in a statement. ?The weather is expected to improve slightly after 12-24 hours.?
The plane, owned by Kenn Borek Air of Calgary, Alberta, was on its way from the U.S.-run Amundsen-Scott South Pole station to Italy?s Mario Zucchelli station while supporting an Italian research project, according to the National Science Foundation, which manages U.S. programs on the icy continent.
It took off at about 3 a.m. ET Wednesday and flew for an hour before its emergency locator beacon was detected in New Zealand, which is responsible for monitoring that section of Antarctica.
The beacon was tracked to a spot about 11,000 feet above sea level at the northern end of the Queen Alexandra Mountain range, some 400 miles from the aircraft?s departure point near the South Pole, rescue-team spokesman Michael Flyger said Thursday.
Hours of flyovers by aircraft from the United States, Canada and New Zealand proved fruitless because of cloud cover and blowing snow, he said.
'Extremely cold'
Kenn Borek Air said in a Thursday statement that weather had kept another of its planes from landing at a makeshift airbase 35 miles from the site of the locator beacon.
The company has otherwise released little information, saying it is ?maintaining a respectful silence? until the fate of the plane is known.
If the plane has crashed, any survivors would have faced extreme conditions in the mountains, Rescue Coordination Center spokesman Flyger said Thursday.
?It?s a cold place to start with,? he said. ?The elevation is around 11,000 feet so ... combined with the wind and snow ... it?s going to be extremely cold.?
Flyger noted that the crew was carrying heavy-duty, cold-weather gear and a five-day supply of water.
"We are still operating with the expectation that we will find them alive," his colleague Branaghan said Friday.
The search-and-rescue team's website, however, referred to searching for a "crash site."

Applications have become an integral part of every business, today! Applications are now an interface to everything an organisation is involved with, which emphasizes the dependency of organizations on Applications. Legacy applications, once deployed stand-alone in organizations, are going online, which include web-applications like CRM, ERP, CMS, online banking, E-commerce, and so on. Today, the Web hosts infinite number of applications, majority of which are running on only a couple of protocols like HTTP and HTTPS ? making applications ?port-independent?. Along with this, with the advent of trends like BYOD and rise of mobile apps, the use of Web apps in organizations is sure to rise.
Considering the popularity of Internet applications and it?s addiction amongst users, Internet applications are becoming a favourite among attackers. Reports reveal that 80% of Web applications have a vulnerability waiting to be exploited and there have been numerous security incidents in 2012, where ?application? was the medium for attack. The security risks organizations face, because of rising use of apps in networks include malware and virus attacks, excessive bandwidth consumption and much more.
Considering the explosion of Internet applications, leading to application chaos in organization?s networks, being application-layer aware, is not an option anymore for organisations. The questions that arise are:
Cyberoam effectively addresses all network security concerns of organizations, on this front with its Application Visibility & Control feature available on Cyberoam UTM appliances. It enables prioritization of applications based on User Identity, time, and bandwidth, allowing great flexibility and real L2-L8 visibility & control. Advanced application controls classify applications based on their risk level, characteristics and technology, offering more granular controls. The pro-active protection model eliminates the need for manual intervention by administrator to update policy for new applications that are being added to the list.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India's Supreme Court will hear a petition on Tuesday by one of the five men charged with the gang rape and murder of a student in a bus to shift the case out of the capital on grounds that the atmosphere was too surcharged to ensure a fair trial.
Last month's assault on the 23-year-old woman on a New Delhi bus triggered an outpouring of anger and grief and calls for swift punishment for the five men and a juvenile who will be y tried separately.
One of the accused, Mukesh Singh, approached the Supreme Court urging the trial be held anywhere but New Delhi, saying both the police and the judiciary were under intense public pressure on the case and that a fair trial was not possible.
A bench headed by the Chief Justice Altamas Kabir will hear the petition on Tuesday, Singh's lawyer, Manohar Lal Sharma, said on Monday.
The petition came as a fast-track court took up the case against the five men who face the death penalty if convicted of the assault on the woman, who was on her way home from a movie, accompanied by a male friend.
The two were lured into the bus and beaten. The woman was so badly assaulted that she died in a Singapore hospital two weeks later.
The five men, who were produced in court on Monday, will plead not guilty, according to their lawyers. Two defence lawyers said their clients had been tortured in custody to give confessions. Police have declined to comment on the allegations.
A.P. Singh, a lawyer for Vinay Sharma, one of the accused, said that he had moved an application in the court, asking for a bone test for his client, claiming he was a juvenile and that he should be tried separately.
Sharma's age according to the police chargesheet has been given as 20. Under Indian rape laws, anyone below the age of 18 has to be tried by a court dealing with juveniles and if convicted has to be sent to a correctional home rather than prison. The jail sentence is also a maximum of three years.
Police are already trying to reconfirm the age of an alleged sixth member of the group who has given his age as 17.
The attack has so incensed ordinary Indians that some have demanded that anyone above the age of 16 should be treated as an adult.
Another defence lawyer, V.K. Anand, said he had moved an application urging the court to make its hearings open to the media. Under Indian laws, a rape trial is usually held in camera to protect the identity of the victim.
The case was adjourned until Thursday, when the court will hear arguments over the charges that the police have brought against the five men, all friends who allegedly went on a joy ride on December 16, looking for women.
Once the court has heard the arguments, it will frame the charges against the men and at that point it will ask if they plead guilty. If not, the trial will proceed.

Beyond the clich?s
In order to know why a stereotype exists it is always important to learn about its origin.
Clogs: The Dutch have been wearing wooden shoes, or ?Klompen? as they are referred to, for approximately 700 years. They were originally made with a wooden sole and a leather top or strap tacked to the wood. However, the shoes were eventually made completely out of wood to protect the whole foot. Wooden shoe wearers claim the shoes are warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The first guild of clog makers dates back to around 1570 in Holland.
When making clogs, both shoes of a pair must be made from the same kind of wood, even the same side of a tree, so that the wood will shrink at the same rate. While most clogs today are made by machine, a few shoemakers are left and they typically set up shop in tourist areas near any city hotel. Amsterdam also has a clog-making museum, Klompenmakerij De Zaanse Schans, which highlights the shoe?s history and symbolism.
Windmills: The first windmills are said to have existed in Holland from about the year 1200. Today, there are currently eight remaining windmills in the capital. One of the best to visit is De Gooyer, which was built in 1725 over the Nieuwevaart Canal. Its location in the east of city?s downtown area means it is easily accessible from any city hotel. Amsterdam loves its beer and it even has a brewery right next door to the windmill. So while you are enjoying a historical site you can also enjoy a delicious ice-cold beer ? what more could you ask for?
Cheese: It?s impossible to take a trip to Amsterdam without sampling some of its magnificent cheeses. According to the locals, the most flavourful cheeses are available at the Wegewijs Emporium. With over 50 international cheeses and 100 domestic cheeses, you will certainly have a wide-variety to select from.
Tulips: The tulip craze in Holland began around 1635 and was actually referred to as Tulpenmanie, which translates to ?tulip mania.? Tulip bulbs became the fourth leading export product of the Netherlands following gin, herring and cheese.
While in the city the best place to see and buy the most remarkable tulips is the Bloemenmarkt (flower market) along the Singel canal. The country is very proud of its gorgeous flowers and beautiful displays can be found inside any great city hotel. Amsterdam is truly a wonderful city to visit and it certainly deserves to be known for so much more than its stereotypes, however, exploring them can make for a wonderful experience!

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) ? Ron Fraser coached the national teams from two different countries, is a member of 10 different Halls of Fame, won two NCAA baseball championships and never had a losing record in a 30-year career with the Miami Hurricanes.
He'll be remembered for so many other reasons.
The longtime Miami coach ? dubbed "the wizard of college baseball" ? died Sunday morning after fighting Alzheimer's disease for many years, family spokesman Tony Segreto said. University officials said Fraser was 79, though a statement issued by his family did not divulge his age or other private matters, including a cause of death.
"The impact he had on our university, on college baseball and on the game itself worldwide is immeasurable," acting Miami athletic director Blake James said.
Fraser's legacy will be, as he once said, his penchant for "doing crazy things out there." He raffled car batteries, hosted bikini nights, threw nine-course gourmet dinners on the Hurricanes' infield, even is credited for helping bring batgirls into the college game. If any idea to drum up interest or money for his program came his way, Fraser wanted to make it happen.
"No one did it better," said Texas' Augie Garrido, the NCAA Division I coaching-wins leader.
But Fraser's finest moment may have come at the College World Series in 1982.
A few Hurricanes stuck fingers in their ears, the signal for the hidden-ball trick, known to this day as "The Grand Illusion." Miami was leading 4-3 in the sixth inning of a winner's bracket game in Omaha, Neb., and Wichita State's Phil Stephenson was on first base. With his team down by a run, Stephenson was going to try to steal; everyone in the stadium knew this, especially since he already had swiped 86 bases that season.
So the play, which was installed in 15 minutes the day before, was called. Skip Bertman, Fraser's associate coach at the time who went on to become a great at LSU, gave the signal. Mike Kasprzak was the Miami pitcher, and made a few throws over to first to get Stephenson's attention.
Then came the moment. Kasprzak made another "throw" to first, one where Hurricanes' first baseman Steve Lusby dove for the supposedly errant ball and, as the story goes, swore to further sell his displeasure. Several Hurricanes started chasing the "ball" along the right-field line, and others in the dugout pointed up the line excitedly, getting in on the act.
And what an act it was.
"He would teach the bat girls to scramble as if they were getting out of the way of it," Florida State coach Mike Martin said Sunday. "They were sitting on a chair. He also had the bullpen and had a guy call it, 'There's the ball! Get out of the way!' It was theatrics at its best."
Sure was. Kasprzak tossed the ball ? he had it the whole time ? to second base, a stunned Stephenson was tagged out trying to advance, Miami won the game and went on to capture the national championship.
When the play was called, Kasprzak remembers exactly what was going through his head: "What if this doesn't work?"
"I'm not sure if every coach would have allowed their teams to attempt something like that," Kasprzak said Sunday in a telephone interview. "He was always the showman type. Doing something like that on a stage as big as the College World Series was something that maybe only he would have attempted. That worked right into his personality and his approach to the game and putting on a good show."
Fraser took Miami to another national title in 1985, and wound up leading the Hurricanes to the College World Series 12 times over his 30 years at the school. He retired in 1992 with 1,271 wins.
But his biggest victories came through his promotion of the college game.
"I was more interested in getting the people in the stands," Fraser once said, "because I knew we'd never be really successful unless we made money."
Fraser also played a key role in getting baseball on national television. And now, the College World Series ? the entire NCAA tournament, really ? is a mainstay on TV, as are hundreds of regular-season games annually.
"Coach Fraser is the most influential person in my career and the man who put college baseball on the map," current Miami coach Jim Morris said last year. "He is like a father to me."
Ronald George Fraser was born and raised in New Jersey, then attended Florida State, where he's a member of the Seminoles' Hall of Fame.
His induction there really had very little to do with his athletic achievements in Tallahassee.
"Florida State University is proud to honor a former athlete who more recently has become a distinguished opponent," read the text of his induction into that Hall of Fame in 1981. "A brilliant promoter and coach, he has advanced collegiate baseball at the University of Miami, across Florida and across the nation."
That's how well thought of Fraser was: The Seminoles put an arch rival in their Hall of Fame.
"Heck, he used to wash the baseballs in milk because he didn't have enough money to buy the dozen or so baseballs he needed," Martin said. "So, he'd wash them in milk and use it as a cleaner. ... He was a character. And, he really was a guy who shared his knowledge with younger coaches.
"I'm going to miss him. He was a good man."
After a stint leading the Dutch national team, Fraser took over at Miami in 1963 with a $2,200 salary, a converted shower for an office and a cow pasture for a field. He got the school's attention in most unconventional way ? which seemed fitting for him. University officials said Sunday that Miami first noticed Fraser by his appearances on the television game show, "What's My Line?"
"He was the person who put college baseball on the map ? not only in the crowds and the entertainment we see today, but in the competitiveness of the game itself," Miami trustee Paul DiMare said. "It was all him."
College baseball was not a revenue generating sport, even for successful programs, so Fraser got creative.
Giveaways, parachutists, whatever he could think of, it all was part of Fraser's plan to entice more people to come see his team.
"My whole thing was to entertain the people. People said it was the winning, but I was trying to entertain the people so they would come back," Fraser said around the time his coaching career ended. "I did a lot of crazy things and it worked."
Attendance at Miami grew over a seven-year span from 33,000 a season to 90,000. And in 1981, the Hurricanes set a record with 163,261 fans ? over 3,200 per game. Attendance dipped below 100,000 only once for the remainder of Fraser's tenure.
After eight straight winning seasons to start off his tenure at Miami, the Hurricanes finally broke through with the school's first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1971. In 1982, the Hurricanes swept through five games in Omaha, clinching the school's first national title with a 9-3 win over Wichita State.
Three seasons later, the Hurricanes won their second championship, beating Texas twice in three days for the 1985 crown. That team finished with a school record 64 wins.
And to think ? Fraser's run at Miami almost didn't get started.
With the athletic department in dire straits in the early 1970s, the school elected to cut one program. Football was lousy, basketball was worse and baseball ? though far more successful than the others ? didn't make money.
"We were going to have to let one of them go," Fraser said.
He fully expected baseball to be the program that got cut. So in a last-ditch effort, Fraser called in some favors. Baseball Hall of Famer Stan Musial (who died at 92 on Saturday, one day before Fraser), major league broadcaster Joe Garagiola and other notables showed up at a beach benefit banquet that impressed the school. In 1972, the university dropped basketball instead of baseball.
Fraser made the move pay off, finally leading Miami to its first College World Series appearance in 1974.
"Coach Fraser had a tremendous impact on the baseball program at the University of Miami at a pivotal time in our history," Miami President Donna Shalala said. "His love of the sport and the program can still be felt, years after this legendary tenure at 'The U.'"
Fraser is a former NCAA coach of the year and coached numerous U.S. national teams ? including the 1992 Olympic team, and went on to work with many community and charity organizations in his retirement.
Miami officials said he had three children and five grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
"On the field and off, Ron Fraser showed how one man can make a difference," James said. "The University of Miami, South Florida and college baseball are all better because of him."

TIP! Think about appliance upgrades as home improvements, to enable saving money on all utility bills. Getting appliances that are newer can pay for itself in the end.
Needing to make repairs to your home can be overwhelming and even stressful. It may become more stressful if you cannot afford the assistance of a contractor. Time is always a problem in today?s world as most people have little to spare on home improvement projects. However, here is the reason you are wrong. Home repairs do not need to be overly time consuming. Follow the advice in this article for no-nonsense tips and tricks on home improvement projects you can tackle yourself.
TIP! One great home improvement project is insulating. Use the opportunity to add weather stripping to every door and window.
Stay safe when doing home improvement projects! Shut off your gas line when you?re working close to a fireplace or any other place that contains a gas line. Gas is volatile and construction projects near sources of it require caution. Be sure that you are aware of the location of the shutoff valve! You need to know the location of your gas lines, too.
TIP! Motion detecting lights add exterior visibility without inflating your electric bill. Lights that turn on when motion is detected make a home more secure because they serve to alert you to visitors or prowlers who enter your property after dark.
Have you looked at the handles on the doors in the house? Brass handles can give a great, rich look to your home. You can really enhance the look of your doors by purchasing new brass handles to replace your old ones.
TIP! When picking contractors, be sure you get several estimates that are each based on the same work requirements. Be clear about what needs to be replaced or repaired and keep the list consistent between contractors.
Stucco is an attractive replacement option for your exterior siding. Stucco is a great material because it stands up to almost any weather and will last. You may need to have help installing it on the outside of your home because you need to employ the use of forms.
TIP! Be sure you properly install ventilation or windows in the bathroom. Humidity caused by hot baths and showers can result in the growth of mold.
Necessary home improvements are more likely to get done when homeowners set aside money for them in advance. You will be able to keep your home in better condition if you allot a reasonable amount for home repairs. If money remains at year?s end, it can be put toward upgrades or major renovations down the road.
TIP! It is important to invest in supplies and tools that are of high quality. It can be expensive, but the expense is worth the value of doing things right.
You need to get out of the mindset that you cannot do the home improvements on your own. You can do some very simple home improvements in no time at all. The ideas from this article have given you a number of unique and interesting options for your home. Now you are well on your way!
